Habitat for Humanity’s Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative (NRI) in Quilcene!

Habitat has great news! On Thursday, the Habitat board unanimously voted to select Quilcene as the pilot community for Habitat for Humanity’s Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative (NRI).

NRI is Habitat’s three-year commitment to serve more families by responding to community needs with an expanded array of products, services and partnerships. With resident input and community-focus, Habitat will develop partnerships with other organizations and groups in order to provide more affordable housing solutions. To measure the impact of this pilot project, Habitat for Humanity International requires a pre-and-post survey of community opinions, attitudes, block conditions, and parcel conditions. This data will be used to determine the effectiveness of the program as well as to serve as a means to duplicate these efforts in other areas of the county.

Quilcene was chosen for a number of reasons, some of which include the proximity to services (schools, places of worship, post office, parks, health clinic, food bank, etc), opportunities for partnership, south county location, current state of housing, and resident commitment to revitalization.

We are extremely excited to begin this partnership with the residents of Quilcene!

The tentative timeline of steps includes the following:

1. Community advisory meeting takes place to gather opinions of the NRI boundaries (January)

2. Habitat’s Board votes on the geographic boundaries (January)

3. Community survey takes place (TBD)

4. Community forum held (TBD)

5. Block & parcel survey conducted (TBD)

6. Habitat’s Board decides housing services Habitat will offer (April)

7. Partnerships with nonprofits, business, and residents are formed (ongoing)
